This is the largest volcanic eruption ever witness by human.
On April 5, 1815 Mt.
Tambora in Sambawa,
Indonesia made this
eruption which is estimated the equivalent of 800 megaton of TNT. This eruption
was heard from 2600 KM away! Before the eruption the Mt.
Tambora was 4.3 km high and now it
is 2.8 km high. That volcano created an ash column 43 km high and spread the
ashes around the world.
This ash blocked the sunlight around the world and the following year 1816 was one of the coldest years on earth. This affected agriculture over Europe and North America. It is estimated that about 10,000 people died directly from the eruption and 70,000 died around the world from the resulting climate changes.
